Default Carbon + S4?

Greetings,

It turns out the school where I teach has a Carbon. My original plan was to recommend the school to get an MTRX Studio, and then S4 later, but the school would probably like bling bling(S4) first and MTRX Studio later if I can get the Carbon work with S4. So, my question is:

Can S4's Control Room knob control Carbon's monitor out level?

If not, I suppose I should recommend the school to get an MTRX Studio, and raise money for S4. I come from Pro Tools 6 and Control 24, so this Eucon stuff is pretty new to me! Any help would be appreciated!

Greetings,

The monitor section of Carbon does not currently support EUCON - which would be necessary for a S4 or S6 console to attach and control the monitor section from. Currently the only devices that can be used with S4 S6 systems are XMON (XMON app), MTRX, and MTRX Studio communicating through DADman.

best,

Jeff

If it's only monitor control you're losing I'd still get the S4 first. I'd rather teach students how to mix on a surface than how to uses DADMan. Teach how to mix at a fixed level which is best practice anyway IMO so you don't need the monitor knob

(not to discount the importance of learning routing and Dante but that could come later)

S4/S6 can use the control room knob to map to the master fader in ‘EUCON Monitor’ mode, without an actual interface monitoring section.. so if you don’t need to select between multiple sources and speakers etc you still should be able to use any interface with S4's control room knob..

Jeff should confirm this though..

Yes, you could assign a Master Fader within a Carbon session to be controlled via EuControl or WSControl. It's not a very compelling solution. Here's how it would look:
