Lightbulb How to Join & Post (Help With Using the Community)

How to Register for a Forum Account

The Avid Pro Audio Community uses a separate database than the rest of the Avid websites. Even if you have previously registered a product on the website and/or created an Avid account for the main website you need to have a separate account for the Avid Pro Audio Community.
  1. After reviewing the Community Terms of Use, click Register in the upper left (we recommend using the same email address as your Avid account).
  2. In addition to the fields where you put in your information, make sure you check the box next to "I Agree" (below the terms of use for the user conference just above your information).
  3. If you get a "Field Left Blank" error trying to register, you may have cookies disabled or popups blocked on your browser. Try unblocking popups and cookies, or try a different browser. You can even do that temporarily to allow you to register.
  4. When you create a new account, you should receive an email confirmation within an hour to verify your email address with a link to activate your account on the Avid Pro Audio Community.
  5. Make sure your internet service provider or your email program is not blocking the email from the domain avid.com as spam. You should add avid.com to your list of approved senders to avoid this problem.
Starting a New Thread
  1. Enter your User Name and Password then click Log In (if you already have an account) or click Register (if you have never created an account).
  2. Do a search to make sure your question or issue doesn't already exist (if it does, you can simply Reply to that thread).
  3. Choose the appropriate subforum from the main index page. For example, the Pro Tools 12 Discussion forum.
  4. Click the "NEW THREAD" button in the upper left.
  5. Enter a short descriptive title and a detailed description of your issue/question in the body. Note that a generic title like "check this out" or "here we go again" will actually get your thread less attention and make it harder to find when searching. (In other words, be descriptive not dramatic.)
  6. Click the Submit New Thread button.
Replying to a Thread
  1. Enter your User Name and Password then click Log In (if you already have an account) or click Register (if you have never created an account).
  2. While viewing the thread, click POST REPLY.
  3. Enter your text in the body field then click Submit Reply.
  4. Alternatively, you can click QUOTE in the lower right of a post to include that post's text in your reply (helpful if the original post is earlier in the thread and your post is related to it to keep them 'connected' - just be careful to leave the QUOTE and /QUOTE tags where they are and put your text before or after the entire quoted section).
Attachments & Images
How do I attach a file to a post?
  • To attach a file to your post, you need to use "POST REPLY" (in a thread) or a 'New Post' or 'New Thread' option ("Quick Reply" doesn't provide the option).
  • After clicking one of those, below the message box you will find a button labelled 'Manage Attachments'. Clicking this button will open a new window for uploading attachments. You can upload an attachment either from your computer or from another URL by using the appropriate box on this page. Alternatively you can click the Attachment Icon to open this page.
  • To upload a file from your computer, click the 'Browse' button and locate the file. To upload a file from another URL, enter the full URL for the file in the second box on this page. Once you have completed one of the boxes, click 'Upload'.
  • Once the upload is completed the file name will appear below the input boxes in this window. You can then close the window to return to the new post screen.
What files types can I use? How large can attachments be?
  • In the attachment window you will find a list of the allowed file types and their maximum sizes. Files that are larger than these sizes will be rejected. There may also be an overall quota limit to the number of attachments you can post to the board.
How do I add an image to my post?
  • If you have uploaded an image as an attachment, you can click the arrow next to the 'Attachment Icon' and select it from the list. This will be inserted into your post and can be located where you want it displayed.
  • To include an image that is not uploaded as an attachment and is located on another website, you can do so by copying the full URL to the image (not the page on which the image is located), and either clicking the 'Insert Image' icon or by typing [img] before the URL and [/img] after it, ensuring that you do not have any spaces before or after the URL of the image.
How do I add a music file to my post?
  • MP3, WAV, etc. are not supported as attachments. To include an audio file in your post, upload the file to any of the music hosting sites then copy/paste the URL into your post. It will appear as a link.
Trouble Logging In?
  • The forum software uses cookies to store your login information, so in order to post you will need to log in.
  • Cookies must be enabled to login and start a new Thread or Reply to an existing Thread.
  • In some cases, deleting corrupted cookies can resolve login problems. These cookies will automatically be recreated when you login again.
Pages Not Refreshing?
  • In many cases (on any operating system) setting your browser to always update pages may solve the problem.
  • If that still does not refresh the pages, in the Cache preferences, set your browser cache to 0 MB, which will always load from the server rather than your browser cache.
  • If your browser does not allow you to set the cache size to zero, to refresh a page on any website, click Refresh or Reload while holding down the Option key on the Mac, or the Shift key on Windows. That will force the web page to reload from the server rather than your browser cache.
  • We have seen some evidence that periodically emptying your browser cache can also increase the speed of browsing the Avid Pro Audio Community forums.
