Re: I Got Pro Tools 7.3 to recognize 2.7GB of memory- Here\'s how
My system once did launch pro tools m-powered 7.4cs7 a lot more often. But since the latest Windows update so far and now PT just seems to struggle to launch nowadays.
Tried uninstalling and re-installing it and nothing happened with countless machine restarts. Could this procedure (from the main post of this topic) work for this? Running an XP sp3, 3GB ram, Pentium 4, ASUS P5P800SE05 motherboard. |

"But since the latest Windows update"
If that latest Windows update included IE8, that may be the problem. Many of us who tried IE8 found we either had trouble with Pro Tools or Pro Tools wouldn't even open. Once back at IE7, all is well again. This has been confirmed on PT LE 8.0, 7.4 and 7.3.1. Cheers,

Good catch, Bruce. I deleted my reply as it was a little off base.

Re: I Got Pro Tools 7.3 to recognize 2.7GB of memory- Here's how
domen74.......Thanks for posting this. It made quite a difference.
I did indeed have some graphics issues with it set to the full 3gb (upon opening PT alone, the interface had some graphics missing, etc., although PT itself ran like a champ.) So, I took your advice in Step 1c(below), and made it 2.5gb instead of 3gb. This freed up the rest of the system (including graphics) to work properly, and still gave my noticeably more memory for PT. Quote from 3c.- "If it crashes or you experience any other problems go back to the first option. Later try adding the userva=2500 switch to the last line of boot.ini and save. Personally I didn't have to use it. This is how the last line would look: multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Micro soft Windows XP Home Edition 3GB" /fastdetect /noexecute=optin /3GB /userva=2500....." So thanks, domen.... -Roy

Re: I Got Pro Tools 7.3 to recognize 2.7GB of memory- Here's how
Hi all. I currently have 3GB of RAM and was wondering if this 3GB switch would be "safe" for me to do right now. There is a little voice in my head that says "no", but every time I see this post I get an impulse to try it out. I'm thinking it will result in too much RAM pulled away from other system processes.
The PC is not connected to the net, and I've followed all of the XP optimization steps, but I get the feeling I should just wait until I can max out at 4GB before trying this. Again, the impulse to do it anyway is strong though. Hearing, "no" from one of you guys should set me straight. My thoughts were that I'd set it to 2.5GB like what I think is described in Roy Howell's post above. So, that would leave 500MB for any background stuff with no issues? What if I ReWire a standalone like Reason? I'm having two issue with PT8: 1. Play/Pause issue 2. Not enough RAM for lots of VI instances. The first issue is what it is, and the second is a user issue IMO. So, those things aside, my system and PT8 have been quite solid. Before I do something I'll regret I wanted to get opinions from you all. Thanks in advance for you advice.
