Default Volume Automation

I keep realizing after I record volume automation for a track that I want to raise or lower the whole level of the track. Is there a way to either grab the volume automation bar and drag it up so that all the cuts and boosts will be raised the same amount? Or better yet, maybe come out of automation write mode and boost the fader 2dbs and have it translate to boost all the cuts and boosts by 2dbs?? I hope this makes sense. Thanks.

Not at the computer right now but from memory, highlight the whole track to move the whole volume line with all the edit points intact.
Hope this helps

On LE, you have to use the Trimmer Tool (F6).. in automation display mode, make a selection then use the trimmer tool to raise or lower the automation. I personally find it better to first copy then paste the automation before trimming to avoid a bug in PT which causes rubber banding of the first and last automation value.

Another method is to buss the track to an Aux track - say it's your vocal, assign the output to Buss 5, create an Aux track with its input set to Buss 5 and output set to the stereo buss (usually outputs 1&2) - solo isolate the Aux track (which I think on the PC is done by CTRL clicking on the solo button if memory serves). Now you can use the aux track as a master vocal fader.

Edit points! I knew there was an easier way to say all that crap. Vocabulary is fundamental.

Thanks Rail. If u don't know the answer to a PT question then there must not be one, seeing as how u have been a DUCer since 1969 and all!!

I find the copy/paste method doesnt work because you get the rubber banding on the first point but the last point works. I really wish digi would handle this.

If I understand you correctly, with the track in volume view, go as far to the right as possible until there are no more edit points - past the last region on the track too - click above the volume line so you get the icon that looks like "[" but open end down, hold the left mouse key down (and the ctrl key down to have fine control) and move the mouse up or down and the volume line will move up and down and so will all your edit points by the same amount. For this to work you must be all the way to the right past the last edit point on the track.

The one thing about automation I wish Digi would fix is when I delete a region, sometimes its automation is still on the track. When I move another region in, the automation is applied. I have to remember to delete the region and its automation. Oh well, there's other things I'd like them to fix/add first

Cheers,

I think I understand your question, and If I do then know one has answered it.
I think your saying you already have a track recorded, and throughout the track
you have automated the volume higher and lower, lower and higher, etc etc
Your are happy with the way the automation is, but just want to raise all
the volume "edit points" equally, at the same time.
If this is what your asking then this is how you do it.
You go to that track and put it on "volume" to see all the edit points.
Then you select the F6 selection tool and highlight all the edit points.
Then you select the F7 key and put it over the track and above the edit points.
Then you left click on the mouse and move it up or down.
This will move all the edit points up or down equally at the same time.
Or you can just use the "Gain" plug-in and increase or decrease the gain
While you leave the Edit points where their at. Its all good!!!

Yes I read it and I didnt think it was an in depth enough answer.
Alot of people are rookies at protools and need a step by step answer.
You didnt say highlight the edit points, you didnt say use F7
some people may not know what the trimmer tool is.
You didnt say use the left mouse button either.
I know an operation like this might seem second nature to you.
But it may not be for some. So I'm just making sure they get it.
Peace TriAxis
