Default Running PT11 Sessions from Dropbox folder

I've been experimenting with running some small sessions out of my Dropbox folder. I haven't had any problems yet. Dropbox uploads the sessions when saved, the tracks when they're recorded, and the backups. The sessions work fine at the studio on my MacPro and at home on my MacBook Pro.

I'm curious if anybody else has played around with this.

Interesting. Can you post a write up on what your process is?

This is the exact thing that Avid Everywhere promises to be able to to do.

Yes. Using Disk Cache will also make it perform better.

I have been doing this for about half a year now, and there is nothing to complain about (except for the Dropbox animation every time I hit "Save").

Use symlinks instead.

I've done this from time to time too - never had an issue (Win 7 64bit).

I've done it for years, first with Logic and for the past year with Pro Tools -- works perfectly. It has no effect on Pro Tools performance, it's just a real time backup routine.

i want to do this but how do you manage your audio drive? i can't put dropbox on an external. would i simply keep my audio files on my external audio drive and then just sync manually? do you use symlinks?

Symlinks can be a disaster. I tried them early on, never again. Unexpected sync problems and losing data can happen, at least in my experience.

I keep my entire session on my internal SSD in my trashcan MacPro. It's a 1 TB drive and fast enough for anything you can throw at it. That's the only way to use Dropbox AFAIK. I don't know what computer and system drive you have, but maybe you could upgrade to an internal SSD.
