Default Newbie question: How do I record from one track to another?

Let's say I have two audiotracks - one empty and one with audio and a bunch of plugins on it. Now I want to record the audio (with all the plugin effects) onto the empty audio track. How?

Change the I/O section to output to a buss - lets just say buss 1/2 (stereo track)

On your second track input buss 1/2 output your monitors

Record enable your 2nd track and press record

Should do it _ also you could search the PDF manual for bouncing tracks or something very similar - also they have nice pics in there with details of how to change the I/O section

Cheers

Easiest would be just solo that track and bounce it out and import the bounced track back to the session. That is, the first time when you do the whole thing at once.

Later on, if you need to fix a ten second take (and have not touched your plugin settings and do not have anything random like reverbs going on), do what YYR123 just said.

No need to use busses. I just route the output of the one track to the input of the other track and be done with it. Or if I don't have a second track already in the session I select 'new track' from the output menu of the first track and select audio as track type.

This trick^^^ actually does use buses And here's another option; Duplicate the playlist and then render the audio in place with the Audiosuite version of each plugin you inserted(do them in the same order you have the inserts). You can copy/paste settings from an insert to the AS version of most plugins(or save as presets for recall). Having duplicated the playlist first means your original audio is hiding in place if you decide you need to make a change or start over.

Re the "New Track" trick, as cool and convenient as it is, if you do it a lot, your bus list will fill up fast

Do an offline bounce. The new track will be created automatically for you. In brief:

Hope that helps.

The bus list does fill up fast but you don't use any of the 128 buses PT gives. New buses are created. I have a session with 20 new buses that are named for the new tracks and I still have 128 buses to use as I please. The new track thing may use buses (which is essentially blind to the user) but you only have one step instead of two or three.

So the reason I used this example was it sounded like Stefan needed a simple answer an easy trick

I don't doubt it can be done various ways - a wise man once said the cool thing about digital is that you can do things in many different ways....

I use this same workflow often, especially when it comes to VI's and Instrument tracks. For any type of bounce track in place, bounce clip in place, offline render, batch processing, or track freeze procedure etc, create some new bus paths dedicated to this. To expand my post above, I first create some new bus paths in the I/O Setup that will be dedicated to track rendering only. Use a descriptive name that works best for you:

I myself dedicate them to bus menu b for quicker access and better session management. For the track I want to quickly render with effects or VI's while creating a new track automatically, I'll select my render type from the audio output path selector of the individual track:

Next I just hit Ctrl+Alt+B then select the Bounce Source and let it roll:

Once you setup these initial dedicated render paths in your I/O setup, the whole process becomes very quick and easy. It will save you hours from doing real-time bounces or time consuming AudioSuite procedures. Hope that helps.

Hi, how exactly do you dedicate a bus to menu "B", or "A" for that matter?

Is there a trick to doing that?

Thanks

Rosco
