32 tracks is not enough!
Hello!
I was just wondering if I'm the only one who think that 32 tracks is really not enough? I love ProTools, it's my only choice to be compatible with other professionnals, but why only 32 tracks? Logic, Cubase, DP, have unlimited tracks! Is it possible to dream of an unlimited tracks version of PT LE? or is it really just a dream? |

Re: 32 tracks is not enough!
This may sound really stupid, but a lot of people are making a lot of noise about only having 32 audio tracks and this not being enough. Could some of you people please let me know just how you fill 32 tracks on a regular basis as I have done lots of full sessions with bands and never gone beyond the mid 20's track count!
I'm really asking more out of curiosity as opposed to having a rant about it... Tim |

You guys are living in a vaccuum.
See the other VERY LONG posts on this topic. It has been hashed ad nauseum, with every viewpoint expressed, except for maybe that of the Central African Whirling Dirvish Coalition. We are still waiting for them to weigh in on the topic.

Whenever I think 32 tracks isn't enough, I listen to Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.

Re: 32 tracks is not enough!
not to be argumentative, (i never get to 32 trks), but realistically,
Did you ever wonder how many tracks Sir Paul used on his tunes from his latest album, Chaos and Creation in the Backyard? Do you think he limits himself to 4 or 8 tracks? i doubt it. it can be done, but Im sure he adjusts to the times and technology... just a little dose of reality when listening to Sgt. Pepper...

Please use the search facilty before posting, as Dubai says only those who have been living on the moon would post something like this, there's already enough posts on this subject.
Do us all a favour and pull it off before you get yourself shot!

Re: 32 tracks is not enough!
wow!
Thank you for your helpful answers! So I can now be sure that this limitation will never disappear. That's sad. I just want to explain a little : when I compose a song alone at home, I don't really need more than 16 audio tracks. But when I need to open a film music session, coming from a PT HD, with more than 100 tracks, It can be helpful to hear everything. ok ok, I will not ask about that again. scuse me for my bad english. bye |

Re: 32 tracks is not enough!
You guys beat me to the punch. I was going to say "listen to the Beatles." Oh well......If you're doing bands then, I feel, 32 is enough. I do alot of post and sometimes things just get big before I know it. Here's how I have managed to get around it. It will take a little $$ and some planning when you record and/or mix. Go out and buy a cheap Power PC or G3 on Ebay. Buy and Audiomedia III card. I think they are acually -$20.00. (I kid...I kid). Get a small cheap midi interface. Set up an aux track in you Main computer's session. Set the Input to s/pdif. Create a session on your cheapy comp and set the outputs to s/pdif. Now hook up the comps to send and recieve MTC (Midi Time Code). Drag your extra tracks to your "new" computer......(voila!!! 32 more tracks) Pain in the butt? Yes sometimes... Does it work? Works for me. Plus, I can master my mixes to the other computer right in Pro Tools....now that is worth the price of admission for me. If I really want to get crazy I can throw my 001 rig in the mix. Now I have 96 tracks. This is a pain in the butt and not really worth the effort. I tried it once with an orchestra and full rhythm section as an experiment. It worked, but it was a big hassle. Just my 2 cents. Keep it real.

And if you need more tracks ASAP the use Ableton Live and stream the tracks via ReWire into an aux channel. Shane
