Default \"Secure Delivery Plug-in\" what is that?

I keep getting a message a couple of minutes after start-up saying "Secure Delivery Plug-in has encountered a problem and has to close" Everything seems ok afterwards.

Anyone know what that's about?

Sounds like you've install the Kontiki download utility

Link

If you've downloaded from c/net you probably installed it.

Dude, seriously, do you know *everything*? It sure seems like you always have the right answer and are always awake to answer questions. I guess since you obviously never sleep, you have plenty of time to learn all this stuff......

I concur. That is impressive.

Quote:
The Secure Delivery Plug-In is used by a number of companies to enable users to download content from their web sites. When a user requests content from their site, if the system finds that the Secure Delivery Plug-In has not been installed, the system will prompt the user to install the program before it attempts to download the content. The content provider may set up their site such that all content must be delivered using the Secure Delivery Plug-In or they may select only certain areas or specific items to be downloaded through the Secure Delivery Plug-In.

You may have installed the Secure Delivery Plug-In while accessing content from such companies and web sites as CNET, Download.com, GameSpot, ZDNet, or one of the many other companies that use the Secure Delivery Plug-In.

The installation of the Secure Delivery Plug-In is designed to be quick and unobtrusive, to provide for the quickest delivery of the content to the user. The installation process can take less than a minute and only a few mouse clicks. However, if a user quickly clicks through the dialog boxes, without stopping to read them, they may not be aware that they are installing the program onto their computer.

I don't ever recall agreeing to download this...

Anyone who's read my posts on security will know careful I am (though I can get a bit arrogant and think that if there is anything nasty out there i can get rid of it)

Secure Delivery Plug-In sounds rather useful, and Kontiki are straight up about the whole thing. However I think my firewall is blocking it, which makes it useless (though I could tweak), so I've uninstalled it.

And what is it doing trying to function while I'm only on Yahoo and DUC? That's spyware behaviour. Bad data! Bad data! Out! Out! Out!

Thanks Rail.

I don't believe this!

I just did did a search on google for "template" & "keyboard stickers" and clicked on a couple of links. Had a quick look. Clicked on nothing. Left Google.

I now find this thing called "Search feed" parked on the bottom right of my screen with a link to "korean language keyboard". This thing has sailed through my firewall! Huh? And why do they do this? Do they think people are pleased to see these things installing themselves?

And why isn't this illegal?

Quote:
As part of the Searchfeed.com network, partners can easily integrate fully customizable paid keyword content, which compliments existing site information and enhances user experience on the site. Partners also have the opportunity to earn a substantial amount of revenue through user clicks and referrals. In addition, benefits of this program can be enjoyed while preserving the branded look and feel of the partner site.
Really? If there was a rep from searchfeed right here I'd punch him out.

Sometimes I wish I was a hacker - I'd plague these people with well deserved viruses.

Now, how do I get rid of this?

Karel,

That would really piss me off too.

I would try something like Ad-Aware to see if it will rid your system of that crapola. Also, look at some of these programs to see if anything fits your needs better.

Last week I had something hijack my browser on my non-PT machine and I, like you, am usually pretty anal about my computer's security. I have no idea how that happened, but the Ad-Aware program rooted out the offending bit o'spyware and all is good again.

I hope this helps.

There was some discussion a while back of the possibility of Rail being a god. Hmmmm.......
