Default MBox 2 Mini Mix Latency

Hi All,

I wonder if you can help. My understanding of the Mix button on my Mbox2 Mini is that you can mix the pre and post DAW/effects signals. Useful for vocals etc. If this is what it is for then I assume that when the Mix dial is in the middle I should be able to hear 50/50 with no latency. On my setup I get about 500MS delay. Its always been like this no matter how my Preferences/setting are. Can someone shed some light on why this may be please?

I am using Ableton 6.0.9, with Toshiba M5 and S1 PC's, MBox2 mini, windows XP, Korg EMX.

Thanks for any help!

Hi Shan,

Let me get this straight.. If I am using "no" effects.. just running the MBox with Ableton, I arm a channel and send a signal through, should I get latency? Just through Ableton? Or is this something only plugins cause? (I do btw..).

Thanks mate.

Just for more info, I have turned on the track record button in Ableton and muted the channel, then played with the mix knob, but I still get a bit of latency without using any effects. Its not as bad as when I add a delay and reverb but still a delay. I guess this is from doing the analogue to digital conversion of my voice.. yeah?

Oh, and I still don't get why we have to mute the audio channel? What is the reason for this?

Such a nube sorry..

ok, Im reading you previous posts properly this time... Here what I am doing, please please tell me where I am going wrong..

In Ableton, I arm an audio track, the input obviously my mic (channel 1 on the mbox). I then Mute the track as you advise (I did this by pressing the yellow square button under the Pan knob, it goes grey | I also tried, turning the Monitor selection to OFF, but this seemed to do the same thing). Then I can hear only the unprocessed vocal. I then turn the Mix knob to the right and I cant hear any of my processed voice, it mutes out. This makes sense as I just muted the channel I suppose.

I want to hear my effected/post signal mixed with my dry vocal but with no latency. Doing the above does not help me acheive this.

I dont mean to point out the obvious by the above, I just want to be clear in what is happening on my side, I know your point will be valid once I understand, but right now I dont understand... heyalp?

LOL! welcome to my blog! haha. Sorry for all the thinking aloud, but after reading all the threads properly and changing abletone hardware buffer to 256 (as sujected by snowjibber) it killed all latency! smooth as! thansk so much for helping me understand Shan!
