MTRX and S6 Network Connections
Hello all! Just a quick question regarding network setup with the S6 and MTRX:
The MTRX Guide says to do this: "When using MTRX units in Pro Tools systems with EUCON peripherals (such as S6), use a dedicatedNetwork Interface for EUCON peripherals and connect all other network devices to a separate NetworkInterface (for MTRX/MTRX Control, DANTE audio, local network, internet, and so on). Using separateNetwork Interfaces is especially important when streaming audio over DANTE" I also have a "Quick Start guide for the AX32 and S6" which says to do this: "Also, make sure that your computer, AX32,and AVID S6 are connected to the same network via an Ethernet switch" I opted to do what it says in the MTRX Guide. My Mac's 1st ethernet port is directly connected to the S6. The Mac's other ethernet port is connected to the same switch as the MTRX. Have I interpreted this correctly? What's everyone else doing? |

Re: MTRX and S6 Network Connections
Greetings,
Best practices is to isolate the EUCON surface (S6) to it's own NIC on the computer, however it is certainly possible to run all off the same NIC. If you are running DANTE Virtual Soundcard on a single network configuration you may notice stream interruptions when connecting, disconnecting workstations and reconfiguring surface modules. Jeff |

To Jeff, Could I use an Avid S3 with AES 67 RAVENNA Monitors in combination with a single ethernet cable on a Mac is this at all possible and how do individual Eucon modules link together on an Avid S6 system are they daisy chained together. Sorry if this is not directly related to the S6 Regards |

Re: MTRX and S6 Network Connections
As Jeff said, best practice is to use separate networks when dealing with Audio over IP. You might think everything OK but you could be losing control data or even audio depending on the amount of data being transmitted. That said if it is only a stereo pair of speakers you'd probably get away with it.
