Default Sync Mac and PC

Hey

I have an issue about syncing two Computers.

I'm running PRO TOOLS M-pOwered w/ a 1814 Firewire card (M-audio) on a MAC G4 1.42 MHZ 1g RAM.
On the other side, I run a PC with a EMU 0404 card with Ableton Live.

I've managed to connect both computers with a Midi cable, and I can get them to start playing both at the Same time (Midi out on MAC and in on PC)

But after a couple of seconds of playing, midi goes a little of sinc (even fixing up with sync delay)

Is there any way I could get this to work in sync for a while without getting off beat?

When I sync Ableton to Ableton, it works fine, Two beats going forever in Sync.
It's when I use Pro Tools with Ableton, somethimes it get a little off.

Thanks !

You need to connect a digital signal from the Mac (1814) to a digital input on your EMU and set the PC to sync to that incoming digital clock.

Most sequencers only do 'trigger sync' - meaning they sync at the first valid incoming timecode, then never check it again, running on their internal clock from then on. By syncing one sequencer to another via digital clock, they both will stay in sync after the first trigger.

so I need to get a sync daughter card for the Emu 0404... and I just sold a EMU 1820m that I had!

So will I need the midi cable connected and the word clock cable connected?

I don't know if I'm right or wrong but doesn't the word clock control only the sample rate of each machine ? Or does it control time also?

The clock and sample rate are tied together... the clock will change frequency based on the sample rate.

I can get the signal from the mac computer to my PC.

Using pro tools in MAC, and Ableton on PC.

BUT, in ableton, I can only get the Midi CLock signal, When I click on MIDI TIME CODE nothing happens when I press play....

When I use midi clock, it stay's in sync for a little while but after about 20 or 30 seconds it gets of...

and time code doesn't do anything.

Is there anything I have to do in Pro tools to get my PC to receive the signal???

Set up the MIDI port in the Peripherals dialog to be used for Synchronization... Check your Session Setup Window for your SMPTE start time and SMPTE format... and put Pro Tools online. You should see incoming SMPTE in the Session Setup Window.
