Monitoring Reference Tracks
Hi,
Looking for a one-click, or hot key solution for switching between a track playing a reference mix and the mix I'm working on. Right now I have to: 1. Un-mute reference track. 2. Solo reference track. to listen to the ref. track; and then do the inverse to flip back to the mix. Too much clicking. Any help would be great. I feel I'm missing something simple. Thanks... |

Re: Monitoring Reference Tracks
I route my ref mix to different outputs on my 888/24. Then I can switch at the monitor section by using the source switch. Source 1 is my mix, source 3 is the reference. Works great.

...I want to do this without using an external source selector. Any ideas. Thanks for responding.

Re: Monitoring Reference Tracks
The only thing I know of that you could try is to make a group of your live mix. Then go to preferences, it think it's under the operation or automation tab, and select unlatch under the solo options. This will allow you to solo your track. When you select the solo button on the reference track, it will automatically deselect the other solo group, and vice versa. You should be able to switch with one button click. It sucks because you can't really do much to your mix while you are comparing, since all the faders are grouped. I know you can inlcude/exclude mutes from group control. I'm not so sure about faders. You'll have to check that out.
The other really bad thing about this method is that your reference track is going through whatever processing you have on the stereo bus, so your comparison is really of no value if you're EQing, compressing or limiting the 2 bus. The best way is to get the monitor switcher, but if you cant, then you can't.

Re: Monitoring Reference Tracks
You can output the tracks to a bus that comes back on to an aux track, solo safe all but that particular aux track and of course the reference track, unlatch solos as described by steve and there you are.
Careful though that this will only work if the Master fader and the aux track that replaces it is at unity gain. If not, the fact that Master fader inserts are Post-fader, whilst Aux track inserts are PRE fader, might change the way these plugins work (notably compressors/limiters and dither plugs Once your are done comparing, it is best to get everything back directly to the master fader
