Default Sound Designer 2 files

I'm sending a finished project off to a mastering house and they're asking for it in SD2 format. I've never heard of that format and I'm not even sure it it's the bounced mix that they want, or if it's all the files. They're asking for all the files on an external hard drive, but I record to internal hard disk. The place in Marcussen mastering if anyone's familiar, but I know they use Mac, and I don't, so I assumed it was a Mac based format. Anyone that can help, please help.

Yea, sound designer was like the proprietary format for digidesigns stuff for a while (simaler to a wav). Its still on the mac side I believe. There are some windows based programs (Wavelab I think) that will convert wavs to that...but I've never had any luck with them (being "invalid files" on macs). Its a bounced file, but being on PC im not sure how you can make it that (well...its never worked for me at least)

Try this... open your session then go to "save session copy in". At that point you will save the session to a new folder on your hard drive but be sure to select AIFF for audio file type and check the "enforce Mac/PC compatability" box. Then burn that new folder onto a data cd and send that to them. They should be able to open the session and bounce to disc in their SD2 format as Macs can read AIFF files. Of course you should make sure you record any RTAS to Audiosuite effects rewriting the audio files with their related effects so they will show up on your master. I have done this working with Mac users while I have PC and we had no problem. Good Luck!!

SDII is a mac only format. this is so due to the manner in which data is stored on an HFS drive.

i'm not familiar with this particular facility but if they know what they're doing, they will be able to handle .wav or .aif files just as easily as SDII.

As everyone has stated.. sd2 files have resource forks.. so inherently aren't PC compatible.

Marcussen just wants the final 2 track mixes. If you have vocal up/down versions, then you could send those too.. but make sure that you label everything extremely well if you're sending multiple versions of the same song(s)... If you've already decided on the master mixes.. then only send those.

They'll be able to handle WAV files fine.
