error launching protools on macbook pro

getting no love from protools when opening same version sessions on a new MCP.

i am able to create new sessions, or open any very simple sessions, but cannot open anything complex, like a multi track session with fade files, automation, etc. that have already been created.
the exact same problem is happening with ableton live btw- seems like a mac problem but they also are not providing too much love for me and sent me back towards digidesign and ableton.

anybody else experience this problem? i have done all solutions on the DUC that were suggested:

-clean install of pt
-repaired disk permissions
-removed start up items
-created a new user
-trashed prefs
-ran tech support utility
-updated PACE
-ran bind utility
-turned off all background apps

still in the same situation. please help me solve this problem before i throw all of this [bleep] out the window and move to cape verde

What error exactly are you getting?

Also, how much RAM do you have and what kind of hard drive are you using? Are you using any 3rd party plug-ins, and if so, have you checked to make sure you've got the most recent versions?

the error msg is : the application protools 7.3.1 quit unexpectedly. (options for close, report..., and reopen)

i have 4gb of RAM and i am using a glyph gt050q 250gb external drive. no third party plug ins

And which interface are you using when this happens? The Mbox 2, or the micro?

thanks for that, it says my laptop is testing, and i did move my mbox to the left USB. i tried to launch a file after trashing prefs again and moving the mbox, same story

Hmm, bummer.

Have you tried the 7.3.1 cs updates?

Since it seems to be more 'Mac' than 'Digi' related with your similar Albeton issue, have you considered upgrading to 10.4.11 to see if it helps? As long as you use the combo updater downloaded from Apple's site (and not software update) it won't conflict with PT.

great, i didnt know that about 10.4.11, i will try it.

also will look into 7.3.1cs.

its a little ridiculous how difficult its getting to run music on these newer machines. im kind of missing my old powerbook g4...it didnt have a lot of speed or memory, but the programs ran well...hopefully ill get this worked out and be a happy mac camper again

do you think it would help to do a clean install of tiger?

has anybody seen this type of error with a macbook pro and protools 7.3.1?
