Default Mono Plug In on Mains

I'm trying to tune the L/R of the Mains separately but I don't know how to put a mono plugin on left and one on the right. Any suggestions?

Justin

Hi Justin,

The LR bus is a stereo bus, so only stereo plug-ins can be inserted. To tune each side separately, route the L bus to one mono matrix, the R bus to a second mono matrix, and then insert mono plug-ins on each of the matrixes.

Should I just set the gain on the matrix to 0.0dB?

It depends on where and how you want to control the master level.

The easiest approach is to set the input gain for the L and R buses within each matrix to 0 dB, and set the matrix masters to 0 dB. The default pickoff point for the matrixes is post-fader (Options>Pickoffs), so this means any change to the Mains LR fader will also affect the level being sent to the matrixes (which is normally what you'd want).

Hey Sheldon,

Doesn't he then have to take his outputs to the mains from the matrices and not the L/R outs?

Correct. The matrix outputs must now be patched (in the Patchbay) to the physical outputs of the console, which then connect to the inputs of the downstream amp/speaker processor.

I have been using the Matrix outs as my final drive for about a year and like the extra flexibility. We use aux fed subs and front fills and the system sounded better when I pulled the left center right down 3 to 6 db in relation to the subs. I realize I could have done it in the system DSP but not all the operators use the matrix as there final outs.
