Symetrix makes an interface that you can connect between your telephone line and your input/interface into your workstation.

I believe the Symetrix box is discontinued. I use the JK Audio Inline Patch, which I got from MarkerTek (800)522-2025. It was about $200 a year ago, and sounds great. I/O is XLR or 1/8" jack

Radio Shack has a little thing that you will plug the phone cable in, and it has a mono out conection. It cost about 15$. YOu can use also a microphone taped to the phone. If you use a hand held that has a headphones out ...use it . cut the cable form a cheap used headphones.
Those spy shop may have something to ...

That's what I will do.
Good luck

I've used a little suction cup device that you spit on and stick to the plastic outside surface of the receiver. I believe it picks up the magnetic field in the vicinity of the mouth piece.

Sumthin like $5, Radio Shack, maybe 10 years ago. Works jus fine.

Radio shack sells two of the little boxes. The one that conects between the phone and the wall works great and has a very clean signal, the one that conects between the phone and the handset was very noisy and almost useless.

I'm a location sound recordist doin a lot of documentaries. I usually tape a TRAM lavalier mic to the ear-side. This is for sure the simplest. The suck-on things works sometimes but usually with bad results. I also made a cable wich split the signal wich goes to the ear-side and through a transformer to an XLR.
Experiment with types and brands of telephones cause the differeneces are huge. The main problem will be that the party where the tap is is much too loud.
You can also make your call from a local radio station, they have the facilities in house!

You can use an old tape-playback-head of a casette-recorder or revox or something, and wire it directly into a microphone input.
you should move the head around a bit all over the phone's "main" module, (not the "horn") to get best signal. It works best on these old "mechanical" telephones, but I presume it works also on these newer electronic phones.

Just another suggestion,

Use the Gentner Phone Patch (SPH-10)

It has professional in's/out's and is easily connected to the Patchbay or to Pro Tools.

I use it to play mixes for clients for approval.

I agree with MDH25. I use the Gentner too and it gives a very good signal to noise ratio.
