Most places seem to have adjusted their prices by now. And as expected, a lot of places are out of stock!

540s,

Do you have Quick Time installed?
If You need to install it.

Shane and I found that this can cause multiple problems without it installed.

Matt

Hey Matt or anyone else for that matter...

Do you know if anyone else is having any issues with errors in Sandra reports?

Re: my cpu voltage issue.

During the "analise & advise" process I get a warning 235 indicating the Vcore is low.

The report from running the cpu burn in test shows that the 12v+ line is at 4.94 Volts.

I have installed both the microsoft & AMD multi core fixes expecting (hoping) to see the correct voltage there but it still shows 4.94 volts. I physically measured it at the plug itself with the system on & there is 12 volts at the plug.

I wonder if it is possible that I am loooking for an issue that does not exist? Could it be an error in the Sandra report?

I know one potential cause is underclocking too much but we didnt do that.

Thanks in advance!!

Joe

So to all of the original Quad builders out there (you know who you are ). I have the original Tyan Tiger build with the twin 270s. If I understand the revised page one correctly, I need to buy:

New Motherboard
New Processors
New Memory

but nothing more? the OCZ PSU will handle the new system ok?

Second question - is it really necessary to do this upgrade? Will the performance improve THAT much? Considering how long it takes to install ALL of those darn plug-ins not to mention the increased cost of new parts...I ask again...

IS IT REALLY WORTH THE TIME AND MONEY?

Only if your running out of power.

Is your current quad running fine?

If so why would you mess with it?

i have talked to shan and mattp about this, and it seems if out machines are running fine, probably not worth it, honestly i have not ran out of cpu power yet! and mattp is recomending to change out the power supply as well, so the only pieces to transfer are hard drives, cd drives and case, and they are the cheap parts! i think i will wait and see how these octocore machines will perform.

Markus,

My Quad is running fine and I haven't run into any problems, or lack of proccesing power. In my opinion the upgrade would be worth while if you want to be ready for the new 8 Core rigs. I'm going to hold off myself, until the price is right for the new barcelona chips. And by that time, the Tyan N3600B MoBo, and RAM should also drop in price.

I agree that it's quite a bit of time to re-install and re-authorize your entire plugin arsenal. Not to mention if you have a limited number of authorizations. ie...NI, Ivory etc. X9Blade and I were discussing that it would be nice to have the ability to just load up a working Acronis Image or be able to swap out C Drives...

Besides, the money for my next computer upgrade just purchased a Hammond C2 w/ 2- 147 Leslie's!! What a score!!!!
