Default Record Crackle, how to create it

Hi,

Is there a plugin to apply to a mix that will make it sound like it's a record? I'm going for the classic record crackle sound.

Thanks

EDIT. I just read about a plugin by Opcode called Fusion Vinyl. However, I cant seem to find it. Does anyone know about this?

I've heard of that too, sounds fun. It's funny. We spend decades to try and get sounds to be perfect, without that record crackle. And now people want to add it back in. lol.

I have a few loops with those exact sounds, let me know if you'd like some, I'll email them to you. Cheers.

There is in the D-Fi plug-in. I believe it's called lo-fi. It's a kind of noise that sounds exactly like the crackle of an old record. I used it about a year ago on a radio spot. I also used bit and sample rate reduction from the same plug-in to get a voice to sound like something from 1930s radio or an early talkie. Then I mixed in the crackle and a tiny bit of pink noise. Very realistic.

Vinyl has been unavailible for a while now, ever since Opcode was gobbled up. You can occasionally find a copy floating around Ebay or in the back of your local dealer.

I have it, and honestly, it doesn't quite beat the real thing. I usually just throw an old record on the turntable and record the crackle. Sound Ideas also sells a 2 disc set called Just Noise that is all static, hum and surface noise. Lots of good stuff in that library.

Peak used to have a "33 1/3 rpm" plug in that worked pretty good. I don't know if current versions have it or not
