2nd Ilok authorization: best way to do?
Hi all-so I recently got a mobile recording setup, and I am finding myself using it more and more. But having to go to my main studio to get the USB Ilok every time I want to cut a part is, frankly, a royal PITA. I've bought a 2nd Ilok, but as best I can tell, I can only transfer the authorization to ONE USB key. Please tell me there is a way I can actually use the software I purchased on more than one USB key? What are my options? Thanks, RJ

Re: 2nd Ilok authorization: best way to do?
Unfortunately only one iLok dongle will have the authorization on it at a time. I have two licenses (yes, I paid twice) for Protools so I have two working iLok dongles. One stays in the studio and the other I take with me and my laptop. It also serves as a backup in an emergency. In your case, you just need to remember to take your iLok with you when you leave the studio. Yes, you bought the software but you need to bring the ilok in order to use it.

That is true. You own the license to use the software and they use the iLok to enforce that license is used on only one computer at a time per license.

Or use PT 8 for tracking, then fly the files over to 11 for mixing. You could run 8 on as many computers as you wanted, because the DIGI interface was the "dongle."

You could also get Zero Downtime with TLC (if you dont already)on your main iLok and then carry it with you. In case something happens to it, use the 2nd one for your temp licenses. I think it's $30 per year

i just need to run PT 10 on my laptop. would zero downtime let me run it on a 2nd dongle, and leave my 1st one at the studio setup? thanks

Re: 2nd Ilok authorization: best way to do?
No. You need to have a second license asset, no way around it. Sorry but you're going to have to spend the bucks or use your one iLok.

Re: 2nd Ilok authorization: best way to do?
Again, why not just use PT 8 for tracking? We very successfully tracked a solid week of two-night performances on a maxed-out rig to get a live album out. Used an 003 rack for 18 simultaneous tracks, nary a hiccup. Then I took the tracks back to the studio and mixed on (at the time) PT 10. What are you using for a mobile interface?
