Re: Recomendations for system to run digi001 on
Can you ask for $25,000? Then you can just get a nicely-loaded MixPlus system and 888/24 (plus lots of toys).
Seriously, Digi has a bunch of compatibility docs available and they are your best source. Get the fastest CPU you can find (dual CPUs will PROBABLY be supported at some point). Get at least 256MB of RAM and a 2nd drive for audio. You DON'T need SCSI at this point in time. ATA/66 drives at 7200RPM are fine for audio, and Firewire-based CD burners are now getting support from the major players. Exactly what do you mean by "output to videotape machine"? 1/2" or 3/4" S-VHS? Sony Betacam? Digital-8? Maybe just a Macromedia file? That question can open a whole can of worms and can cost an arm and a leg for proper sync tools. Then there's SMPTE...I won't go there...well, maybe just a little... Remember, the 001 is a MUSIC production tool, not a POST-production tool. ------------------ LW

Get more ram! Maybe like 512M, just because!? Oh that's because I'm running all kinds of other plug-ins, sequencers.....
Get two big flat pannels. Don't forget about a good monitoring system. And a good pair of headphones..... 6am eternal |

Recomendations for system to run digi001 on
I am going to purchase the digi001 system but am not sure what is the best system to run it on. Can anyone suggest what their "ideal" system would be. Please include proccessor, RAM, periphrials etc., as I will only get the amount of money I ask for and if I need to get extras I didn't know about I'll have to wait till next year. Will want to be able to burn audio to CD's as well as output to videotape machines on my system.

Re: Recomendations for system to run digi001 on
At this time I would recomend at least G4 400/256. Scsi card to wide 9gig External, and CD burner. You can adapt down to a narrow scsi burner. You can find these cheap on auction sites. If you want to sync to video the cheapest way is a JLCooper PPS-2 smpte-mtc converter. This config works great for me.

Re: Recomendations for system to run digi001 on
one system i would recommend staying away from is an etch a sketch. the clumsy interface results in a lot of slow screen redraws, and its a drag to reboot.
i am however having extreme success on my 8600/300. after redesigning apples configuration of this machine it works VERY well and i can have about 14 plugs with about 18 tracks. more or less of either. anything better than a 604e is sure to give you success. watch out for ata33 instead of ata66- they are out there. get ram. debug your system carefully. beware usb. perhaps buy a working hotrodded g3/9600 combo. just don't get the etch a sketch. i warned you. |
