Protools outputs too loud

The output of the master faders is way too loud meaning that it is distorting the output signal. the quick fix I did was just to pull the master fader down. I have tried restarting protools software and hardware and no change.

Please provide basic info like PT and OS versions, audio interface and anything relevant. You might also want to check "Help us help you" in the header of each DUC page for compatibility and troubleshooting information.

What do you mean "too loud"? Are the output meters clipping? What are the other meters in the session showing?

Whatever the problem might be, turning down the master fader to where you can't hear distortion is a solution. That's what a master fader is for. The PT mixer can handle quite a lot of internal overload withou audio degradation, provided it's a 24 or 32 bit session, and turning down the master is a quick fix. It's the job of a master fader.
