Turning off Output raises level of Aux - Why?
I discovered this today and don't understand the logic behind.
Please see enclosed images for clarification. Consider a mix structure where I send audiotracks to a subgroup (AUX BUS1-2). The subgroup then goes to Stereo Master Out. Then for some reason I need to also send this subgroup to another aux (BUS11-12), this aux is not routed to Stereo Master. As can be seen in the images (using a test tone @ -15 dBFS) if I turn of the first subgroup's output to the stereo master, the level of the second output is raised 3 dB. The send level is not changed as can be seen on the small send channel to the right of master. (By the way: If the source channel is stereo makes no difference, same thing.) Anyone who have an idea why this is? Images. First one with output on, second one without output off. |

Re: Turning off Output raises level of Aux - Why?
The conspicuous thing here is that the Pan knobs disappear when you deselect the output on Aux 1. Try to see what happens if you tun off FMP on the Bus 11-12 send. There is a "feature" in PT, that the automation of Sends doesn't work properly if these are wider than the channel the are on. Maybe things got worse with the new up- and down-mix functionality.

Re: Turning off Output raises level of Aux - Why?
I can reproduce with both old PT 2019.6 and latest 2021.12.
No output and FMP turned on makes the send output mono, even though both the aux input and send are stereo. It's more clear when you pan your original signalgenerator to the left only. Good to know this, thanks. |

Re: Turning off Output raises level of Aux - Why?
Ah yes, with FMP turned off it works like I would expect. I guess it makes sense that without a Main output Aux sends might as well be mono rather than any other channel configuration when using FMP.

Re: Turning off Output raises level of Aux - Why?
In case you didn't know, the output of a track can be assigned to more than one destination. Hold cntrl (mac) and select the outputs. I don't know if it matters to you in this case, but it can be very useful, and not everyone is aware of it.
