Now they have a AC iso rack and everything just peachy. Kev
Do you mean that their iso box is actively cooled by its own air conditioning system? Do you have contact info? Thanks.

That G5 will be a LOT quieter than your Quicksilver G4. You might not need an isolation box.
Exactly!! We built rooms with an IsoBox on one side and an open rack on the other, thinking we'd put two G5s in the IsoBox. By the time we started racking the gear, it was obvious that the 'gear' (Sync Box, 192 I/O, dual Rorke SCSI drives, wordclock distro, etc) go in the IsoBox. The two G5s are SO much quieter than any previous that they're hardly noticed... and they're sitting 2 feet away from me.

Here's a picture of our setup in CR 'A'.

The iso rack has a ac unit built in (vents on the bottom i think). it has two power units that are on there own circuit, with 1 hour battery back up and then generator back up after that (for the whole office). Its a 12U rack. Not sure the make. The order for the rack went though CSUC as did all our computer systems (servers, 8 G5, 5 G4 Emacs 5 G4 lap tops, and some windows systems) so I will have to call and find out who makes it and price. I would bet it was expensive, but its sweet! Ill take pics of the system and upload them if you wanna see.

What is your budget? Obviously less than a grand. Spend less than half that and truly isolate them through distance...extend. If you don't have the room, make it. If you don't have the room...drop a grand I guess.
Seriously, extending to a machine room is by far the best idea for any pro installation. You'll be able to keep things a lot cooler and running more dependable, plus you'll have far better access to the back of the installation if and when problems come up.

These new G5's throw off an enormous amount of heat. Don't assume that any of these iso boxes will be able to adequately remove the heat of all the equipment inside, unless the specs definitively prove it. All of these boxes are NOT created equal. The ambient temperature of your room will also be a factor.

There are a LOT of people who have invested a lot of money in fancy ISO boxes only to find that the boxes can't keep up in removing the heat, so they keep them open most of the time, and only close them on occasion for a critical listen.

If you do get a box, put a temperature probe on top, and don't let things get to hot. An ISO box (unless it has some sophisticated built-in air conditioning) is a poor solution to the problem, and should only be used if no other options are available.
