Default Keeping up is a LOTTA work!

Happy Holidays Toolers! Im happily protoolin along with LE 8.4 Digi 003 macpro OSX leopard 10.5.8. 2.5 ghz intel core 2duo EZquest 160gig HD Suddenly I get the bright idea to get the production toolkit (since after about 2 years I kinda sorta have a clue as to what all those plugins finally can do,if used correctly) So now the FUN really starts! To upgrade to PT-9

1. I first have to upgrade to snow leopard 10.6.2 or higher $30.00
2. crossgrade to PT-9LE with included toolkit $550.00
3. Download new drivers from avid site. I-lok also required to complete install
I think thats all it takes to move up. Or am I still missing something?
Is snow leopard install user friendly and simple?
Is PT-9 install also pretty straightforward?
Am I good with my 1 HD? or will PT-9 require 2?
Asking for any experienced advice. THANKS!! MERRYCHRISTMAS!!http://duc.avid.com/images/smilies/confused.gif

1. Yes.
2. Perhaps? Which toolkit do you have?
3. Yes.

All installations are quite straight forward... but I would wipe that system drive and start fresh. Just makes the process cleaner and eliminates some potential issues.

If you're on holiday with non critical projects, go for it. Otherwise DO NOT CHANGE YOUR SYSTEM.

PT9 is buggy, as are every new versions of PT for the first few months...

Can you be more specific?

PT9 is, bar none, the most stable release of Pro Tools I've ever used, going back to 5.9.

I'm getting the same problems as what I had with 8 (keyboard focus not working at times, occasional "unexpected quit") plus a few new ones: plugins on my iLok not being recognized anymore, A LOT more "unexpected quit", and some funny "fatal errors", which I thought were a PC only thing but it seems we have them on Macs too!

Interesting.

I haven't yet had PT9 crash once, and I bought it 2 days after it was released. Had it running for a week straight, and nothing.

Sounds like you have some incompatible plugins.

I would think so. I am running plugs from quite a few different companies (SPL, Sonnox, Digi, Brainworx, etc...) so that's probably my problem. I'm going to run plug tools to see if I'm up to date with everything...

I'll second this as well.. though I give a lot of credit to my new (to me) Mac Pro..

I push a button and everything works. I have yet to have a single issue with OSX and PT9.

I guess everyone's setup is different. All I know is that mine, in which computer is brand new = fresh install of OS + fresh PT9. Things have been storming and giving me error after error...
But then, I haven't seen one really stable version since 7.3 I think so I'm not complaining. At least now I get ADC with my errors
