Default Session in 30 minutes....can't figure this out!

I'm going to do my best to explain this so bare with me.

There are two main ways to determine where you are going to start playback from...

1. Making a selection in the edit window and hitting play.
2. Clicking anywhere on the edit window and hitting play.

The first one works but the second one doesn't.

Example. Lets say I make a selection from bar 4 to bar 6. When I hit play, it starts playing from bar 4 like normal. However! When I go ahead and click on bar 9 and hit play it reverts back to my last made selection and starts playing from bar 4.

I've never seen this happen before and I have no idea how to turn this off. (I'm assuming for the moment it's a setting not a bug.)

I've tried messing with all those "link track and timeline" etc. etc. as those are the usual suspects that mess me up editing wise.

If anyone has any ideas that would be awesome! If anyone doesn't entirely understand the problem from that please ask.

Thanks!

So to be clear you do NOT have the selection highlighted, correct? And no matter where you set the playhead cursor, it's starting from measure 4?

So you have RED start/stop points, right? If so this happened to me and I fixed it, but have NO idea how I did it or how I fixed it!

Could be a couple of things:

Options--Dynamic Transport (Ctrl+Cmd+P)
Options--Link Timeline and Edit Selection (Shft+/) (Button to right of "a...z")

That dynamic transport has caught me out before now too. Can't think of any reason why anyone would need it either.

If you do any kind of loop creation (drums, bass, etc...) with audio that was not cut to a click it saves a lot of time and frustration... using the extend/append selection function with the cmmd-+/- .
Also for longer loops, being able to start the loop a bar from the end and listen to the evenness of the transition back to the beginning.
combine those two timesavers and it is a pretty great tool. I am sure there are other applications, but that is where it works for me. SB
