Default M-Audio Transit not going to 96?

I just installed M-Powered 8 with the M-audio Transit USB interface for my MacBook Pro. I installed the latest drivers for the Transit and also updated the lasted "crucial" update for M-Powered 8. For some reason when I create a new session it only has 44.1 & 48 kHz as an option. The Transit says it's a 24 bit 96 kHz audio interface so the only thing I can think of if it's dependent on the software determines how high the sample rate.

Here's the spec's:

15" MacBook Pro:

Mac OSX 10.62
3.06 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo
4 GB 1067 Mhz DDRM RAM

Pro Tools M-Powered:
Version 8.0.3cs1

M-Audio Transit:
software: 1.8
Firmware:1.01

I dont have a Transit so take this with a grain of salt.. From a PTLE point of view have you checked to see if the sample rate is perhaps dependent on buffer size? In PTLE it is.

If it's anything like Fast track pro's drivers control panel, you would have the option of selecting less inputs and output to give you the 96k sampling rate. I had the same issue until i deselected less inputs on my unit.

I haven't checked in the Transit control panel yet but I will check it out later this evening. That must be the problem.

It seems odd that this would be the case because I have a FireWire 410 interface and I have never had to go into the control panel to alter my sample rate selections, I have just been able to open a new session and I have all the sample rate options upon opening pro tools.

It would be great if someone with a Transit could chime in as well as I curiously to hear their thoughts.

I think the reason why is because usb is not as fast as throughput as firewire is so your firewire device can handle all your inputs and outputs by default. Just my $.02

The Transit supports 96kHz only as input OR output.

You can select this easily from the hardware setup within Pro Tools before starting a new session.

Because USB 1.1 is not fast enough to do muliplex audio output at that sample rate.
