Default iTunes/PTLE request

Can you guys make iTunes run as an RTAS plugin so I don't have to shut down Pro Tools to play a CD?

I'm kind of kidding, but the Workspace Browser isn't very easy to work with and it's kind of a PITA when you need to listen to something in the middle of a session.

Also, Core Audio Manager still won't completely quit when I shut down iTunes, so there's a restart involved as well.

Plus, the "mirror digital outs..." box keeps coming unchecked. Any progress on this?

Thanks,

max

Incredibly inconvenient that iTunes can't work at the same time as PT.

It would be great to bounce around your iTunes library comparing mixes with whatever you are working on.

Did I mention friggin' incredibly inconvenient?

I'd pay for an iTunes RTAS plug... but only about $5... maybe $10.

It's a good idea.

I used to use the 'import audio' dialog box if I need to listen to an iTunes track (or something else) during a PT session, works pretty well actually. I have a mixer now so it's not necessary, but give it a shot, it's not bad.

Hi Guys, heres a thought. I send my 002R and Mbox in to my mixer via a Behringer Hum destroyer to get rid of annoying DAE whine, i then send the headphone out of my iMac in to the tape returns of the mixer. iTunes uses built-in audio and Pro Tools uses the Digi hardware. Woks a treat and i don't have to use the dreaded workspace which incidentally is far worse with the 002r then the Mbox.

Cheers

Yes I do this too, however, I don't like the fact that it has to convert it and save it as mono files. It would be great if either you could just add the existing mp3, wav, stereo interleaved aiff, etc. directly into your session (so have PT accept mixed file types/bit and sample rates) or have a plug-in that can run a variety of files.

Heck, there's plenty of times I'd rather be listening to something else WHILE I'm working in PT. Start recording, nod in time and smile, but in the headphones actually be listening to Crowded House or something.

You could probably get away with that, until you accidentally started singing along. Someone would be tracking and you'd be nodding along, then go, "You'd better be hooooome soon...oops."

Nah, if I want to reference a track, it's gotta go out through my Rosetta 800 D/A. Behringer mixer is, of course, out of the question.

Okay, next question about iTunes and PTLE:

I use an 002/Rosetta 800 with a G5.

If PTLE is using the 002/Rosetta 800, can I send the optical out on my G5 to a Mini DAC while PTLE is open? Those are cheap now, so I'd buy one if this were possible. I actually have other Macs that could be iTunes server but I don't have room for the extra keyboard/mouse/monitor.
