I have to admit that I was expecting too much from 003. I actually thought(and hoped) that it will come with the option of dsp and will be a line in between hd and le.
Just from looking at the pics, it looks like word clock was the only addition?
If that is the case and the pics are the real thing, then I'm pretty disappointed.

Actually the Project Mix has it beat in features... if not quality. It already has 8 pre's, ADAT, 2 headphone outs and word clock.

Yeah, no other Digital I/O, that's totally stupid. Not even 1 AES/EBU port as rumoured! Man, the old MOTU interfaces are looking better and better for me...

thats what i dont get, it doesnt appear the 003 can even really compete with an m-audio device???

The kicker will be when support is dropped for the 002, & software upgrades aren't supported. ie: In order to run the new PT ver x.x you'll have to upgrade to a glorifed 002... Sorry, ehrmm.. 003..

It may not be the same box, but if word clock is the main difference, it might as well be.

I meant "glorified Project Mix" in look as opposed to features. You're right, the Project Mix has already got it beat in the features dept.

I just can't figure what Digi's play is here. If anything, if you're an LE user you're more incentivized to "downgrade" to M-Powered and go with the Lightbridge and a nice Mackie controller. You add a presonus (Digimax FS), focusrite (Saphire) rack or better (Onyx 800F/RME Fireface) via lightpipe with word clock sync. Maybe even a boutique pre or two, and you've upgraded well beyond anything LE Hardware will get you.

Granted, what I'm suggesting is not cheap. But hell, "downgrade" to a Project Mix and M-Powered and add your fave boutique pre, not mention a lucid clock and you're still beating LE by a mile.

Again, must breathe deep and remind myself that I am very happy with my 002 set-up. But...

I must admit, I'm also puzzled. All of the things people asked for and suggested over the last two or three years right on this board appear to have been completely ignored. Geez, even the additional two inputs via AES/EBU that it was initially rumored to have would have been something. This is nothing.

I'm wondering, however, if maybe there won't be a "003 Pro" like they did with the Mbox, offering a few more inputs. A word clock doesn't give most 002 owners any incentive to upgrade.

I'm astonished. I'm a very PRO-Digidesign Pro Tools addict and I rarely criticize Digi. But all this is going to do is cause most 002 owners to shrug their shoulders.

I'm stunned.

If you have a Rosetta, the .002 Clock's to the Rosetta when recording S/Pdif-Optical or RCA, so the BNC on the .003 is Not necessary as you take the .002 off "internal" and set it to clock to S/Pdif in the hardware menu...
