Just talked to tech support. The suggestion was that perhaps the bounce function code, for whatever reason, now finds a drive as large as 75 gb a bit much. The idea is that partitioning the drive might bring it back into manageability. If so, two partitions? Can this change in the future?

Partitioning might help. We do most of our testing here on 9G or 18G partitions.

Also, please check your SCSI termination.

Please keep me posted. I'm very interested in tracking the problem down.

One of the issues I found with 5.1 is that the DAE buffer keeps jumping to zero. This way almost none of my bounces work (ofcourse).

Paul Greyson,
I'm still fighting this no can bounce on the 75 gig drive business. I've partioned it down to 18 gigs. Same old same old. Can it be the model difference? It is a LWV not a LW like the 18 gigs that work . This indicates a 16 MB cache. this is the only difference aside from capacity. Does PT 5.1 see the 75 gig drive or just the 18 gig partion? And remember, it works with 5.0.1.

rbeggs,

Alright. How about DAE buffer size? SCSI termination? Other applications running in the background? (especially networking applications: instant messanger, mail programs etc.)

Paul,
The DAE buffer is set to the default (#2). SCSI termination is via the inordinatly expensive Kingston VHD unit for the 160 series drives and works fine. No other apps are open. No stress on the system that I'm aware of.

I have arranged to exchange these LWV drives for the LW series. Tech support at Seagate told me that there are substantial firmware differences between the LWV and LW. I have to do this if only to remove a variable. I'll let you know what happens tomorrow.

OK. The issue with the Seagate Cheetah 160 series 75 gig drive seems to be that the LWV version has some firmware that makes it incompatible with 5.1. It works fine with 5.0.1 however. I have switched to the LW model and everything is hunkey dorey.

Have you tried disabling the buffer on the LWV ?
I think that the ATTO express will do this if if you optimize for audio when formatting.

I do know that Anubis Utility lets you do this manually, but it's tricky modifying mode settings if you don't know what your doing.

Might work ? ?

Can we use "bounce to disc" to a drive that is at least or less than 18 Gig on the same drive without a problem with PT's 5.1? What is the maximum partition or drive capacity we can count on for "bounce to disc" to be dependable.

As most of us do, I rely on this, to burn CD's for clients at the end of the day (and don't need the grief of a potential problem for this mundane task) just because I think I am keepin' up with the latest greatest thing upgrade.
