Default Why only 32 tracks?

All,

Is there a way in LE to get more than 32 tracks? Can I sync two Digi002s together? Id there a hack? It seems that this is a deliberate limitation rather than one based on performance. This is the only thing keeping me from dumping my PARIS system.....currently I can get 48 hardware DSP based tracks plus host based ones if I run out of native tracks.....I am having a hard time making myself believe that I can confine my mixes to 32 tracks.

Regards,
Aaron

The Fab 4 only had 3 tracks. sorry.... couldn't resist beating someone to the punch.

One word: submix - I think it's much easier to manage in 6.x with virtual tracks.

I know one can sync two 001's , makes since that one could do the same with 002's

Man, you've got some big balls coming in the Digi forum asking if there's a hack for Digi software.

I understand your point, but why should I limit myself when I dont have to? I don't want to submix....I enjoy the power that PARIS afford me but I cant afford HD so I'm stuck

Well, you could probably come up with something useful by adding a HD recorder, like a Mackie or ADAT.

Digi imposed this limitation intentionally so you would have to buy their TDM based systems if you want more. That's why it's called Pro Tools LE. The LE being Limited Edition or Lite Edition (note really sure) but the bottom line is the 32 track limitation has nothing to do with computer resource at all. It's all marketing.. But hey, you knew it was 32 tracks when ya bought it so ya can't complain too much.

Well if you get the update or start out with the 6.1 software you aren't limited to 32 tracks. In fact I think you can have up to 128 or so. The limitation is just that you can only have 32 playing at once. So you mix down 32 tracks, disable them, enable the next 32 tracks and keep going. Then if you want to change something in the first 32 tracks again you just disable the ones your on and go back. There really is no limitation anymore, it just takes a few steps to get to the tracks you want if your actually over 32(which I have never even worked with over 24 so if you need more than this your probably doing something wrong)

IMO, the best way to add tracks is to use Ableton Live rewired to Pro Tools. By doing so, you can have as many tracks playing as your system will permit.

As a side note, the 32 track limitation is lame. I encourage anyone who doesn't like it to speak up, regardless of whether or not they knew about the limitation at purchase. Digidesign's policies/marketing decisions are theirs, not yours. Use your mouth and pocket book wisely. (end of rant)
