Default Sound sample Play back plug in

I am looking for flexible plug in that allows me to listen to my samples without having to load them in to pro tools. No i am not looking for a midi synth, or synth like program. I merely want a sample playback plug in to audition my drum samples. Any suggestions? Would sound replacer allow me to do this function? Or do i need to have audio selected to do that?
Any help would be appreciated.

If you open the import audio dialog you will be able to preview it from there before importing. Cmnd+shift+I is the key command if memory serves me correctly.

The Pro Tools workspace also will audition samples on any drive; there's no need for a plugin, the feature is already built in.
