Default error message (-9073)

Pls. help! I was running protools 7.0 and/or 7.4 on a macbook and a mac book pro and the CPU is said to be running too slow. I then increased the buffer size and level as suggested. I also unchecked any energy saving tools/devices as suggested. Anytime I have more than 3 or 4 tracks going, or if I layer a couple of voices or use phat sounds, I get the (-9073) error message.

P.S I get the same message using a macbook with OS 10.9 or a macbbook pro with: 2.6 processor, 4 Gb, fastest hard drive (all with mbox2 mini).

Are you trying to record to the internal HD (which also has the OS)?

I was told to record to the desktop so I've been saving my current session there and dropping the rest in my external drive/rhino.

Running sessions from the system drive (that's where the desktop is) is not recommended as the disc read/write heads may have difficulty accessing the OS/PT software as well as the audio files simultaneously.

As this error is HD related, you might want to consider the use of an approved external F/W drive. I'm not familiar with Rhino hardware so cannot say if there's a compatibility issue there. There are certain bridge chipsets that have been known to cause problems. HD's models with Oxford 911 and some others are recommended.

Other things to consider include,
1. Disabling Anti-Virus software (if appropriate)
2. Disabling sleep mode
3 Making sure file names have less than 31 characters.

Thanks for the help Phil. I'm looking into many of your suggestions. I did read from one member that you can buy CPUs. Do you know anything about this?

BTW here are my software and hardware choices:

pro tools LE 7.3, mbox 2 mini, macbook pro

It doesn't sound weird at all. It sounds SO MACesque. I'll check it out. Thanks.
