Default Laptop Chipset Question

Hi, I have an original Mbox and I've been in the market for a Laptop for some time now and have read many of the horror stories on here over the last while. I know the Macbook is the current recommendation but I'd prefer to stick with Windows for now. As I understand: the Chipset, FW and USB are the 3 main problem areas. I know the FW and USB can be overcome (if needed) by external devices so it seems like the Chipset is the determining factor as to whether Pro Tools will work well or not. 915PM, 915GM, 855PM - are approved by Digidesign but seem dated at this point. 945PM Express chipset is officially qualified with Pro Tools 7.0/7.1 ONLY.

Any thoughts on either of these: PM965, GM965 as they seem to be the chipsets that occur most frequently in laptops I am looking at. I have read spkguitars signature, compatability pages and searched the duc but i cannot find a lot of info on this. Hope you can help, Many Thanks

Steve

Default Re: Laptop Chipset Question

I beleive a lot of MacBook Pros had the 945 chipset. Basicaly if it will run on a Mac under Boot Camp your probably going to fine. I'm not sure about the latest 965 Laptop stuff but the G965 desktop stuff is running pretty good. You might check because I think latest iMac is using the 965 but I'm not sure. None of these guarentee success with a windows laptop-Digi really needs to update the the Windows laptop listing.

This doesn't take into account Fire Wire Chipsets either.
