Default A few questions about PT 10 Native...

Hey all,

I just got my crossgrade for PT 10 native.
I'm a little hesitant about installing it though, because I had such a heck of time trying to get PT9 and Lion to work.

I currently have version 9.05 working on my 3ghz 8 Core Mac Pro (24gb ram), just fine.
I ended up having to go back to Snow Leopard because of the issues with Lion 10.7.2
I did have 10.7.1 installed and it worked fine with PT 9.05, but I forgot to disable Apples automatic software updater, and the next morning I was back on a computer with 10.7.2.... :-(

PT 9 & Logic 9 both seemed to work great with 10.6.8 for me anyway. So I just went back to snow and skipped re-installing Lion.

So anyhoo....
Could one of you kind hearted souls bring me up to speed on any problems I may have to deal with if I upgrade from PT 9.05 to PT 10? Will it work with Snow or is there a benefit to moving back to Lion?

Also, will all my RTAS plug's work ok in PT 10 (Current Waves, Sonnox, Nomad etc.? All plugins except DUY that is.. Do those guys ever answer email?? ;-)

Thanks a bunch!
-Chris

PT10 will run very nicely on Snow Leopard - I'm using it with 10.6.8. In fact, its more stable than any 9 version I've used with Snow Leopard.

All my RTAS plugins just worked in 10 after the crossgrade but out of the plugs you mentioned I've only got Waves.

I'm also wondering if it is worth changing to Native. Other companies have it since years and I don't know whether my HD system is being supported for another 5 years.

Thanks John! I'll give it a try.
Any downside at all?

Thanks!

Central,
If your setup works, just milk it till the day it dies or you have to change. That's the way most of the big outfits do it.

If your worried about your HD system losing value, it may already be too late for that depending on when you bought it and what you paid for it. Support for another 5 years? I don't think your going to be as lucky as those other companies you mentioned. Avid has said PT 10 will be the end of the road for the old hardware.
I remember it sucking, when right in the middle of PT8's life Avid dropping support for the Power Mac G5's. But, at least they are letting everyone know the end of the support for the HD hardware will be with PT 10.

I let my HD stuff go and went totally native just before PT9 came out and just bought a more powerful Mac. I haven't looked back since. But then again, I just record myself and occasionally others. I am not a big commercial studio, so my native setup works great for anything I have needed it for.

Seems to be working OK in Snow 10.6.8.

Thanks!

So far, none at all At least not like the problems I had with 9.. PT10 hasn't crashed on me yet and generally just seems to run a bit smoother and faster than 9.

Hope your experience is the same! All the best.
