Default Apollo Twin - Future for HDN hardware in project studios?

So now the Apollo Twin adds a true Thunderbolt/PCI type interface. If this device succeeds in delivering excellent low buffer performance (as believed) in addition to the low latency monitor path with UAD plugs it will be a formidable device! Imagine if OMNI had delivered an HDX lite DSP on board just for the monitor path. this would have been the project studio dream system.

The only knocks on the Twin are limited inputs (10 with 8 being ADAT) and maybe lack of digital out. I almost pushed the buy button on the Twin three times now. When UA updates the Apollo to have the same true TB/PCI interface this will be serious competition to the HDN hardware... -maybe - all depends how testing of these in the real world goes .

Good points below---- I changed the title after reading the second post...
- Note - these comments are more aimed at the project and hi end project kinds of studios where 16 live inputs is totally sufficient.

PS>> Couldn't resist ordering one so I suppose I will do the Guinea Pig thing to see what I think

Default Re: Apollo Twin - warning sign for HDN hardware

There will still be issues like insert compensation, HD software, amount of available inputs, and other reasons why Avid hardware will be of preference to many people.

and it's only an option for Mac users being TB only
so it won't be an option of the Windows users

Plus the conversion quality is still higher on the Omni and other HD interfaces.

On a side note, what is up with these newer interfaces only offering one half of the ADAT lightpipe I/O? This interface only has ADAT input, the apogee quartet only has ADAT output.
