Default best low cost digital 5.1 mixer for PT 10 with Production Toolkit

I'd really like to use a digital mixer as my front end for mic and line input and to be able to monitor in 5.1 directly to powered speakers from the mixer... I have Pro Tools 10 with the Production Toolkit...

what's the best low cost solution for this for a project studio?

Tascam 3200?
ProSonus Studiolive 16.4.2? (can I even monitor 5.1 out of this mixer?)
Mackie?

having real trouble getting all the answers together from various sites... anyone have a setup like this they're happy with?

Is there a particular reason you want a digital mixer? You don't need one. You just need an interface with at least 6 line outputs. You might already have one (002, 003, etc.).

You might just need a surround monitor controller for volume, mute, etc.

Or, you could look at getting an interface where the volume control can be assigned to all 6 outs, such as the Mbox 3 Pro, Focusrite Sapphire 40 and 56, Apogee Ensemble, and others.

When I started in 5.1 (Project studio)(DVD Audio was new) I used a Onkyo receiver with 5.1 inputs (DVD in) 5 Hafler speakers and an infrasub

Now you can find similar in 7.1+ as recievers and preamps if you using powered speakers.

As mentioned above. see what yo have first then go shopping if needed.

My setup:

Pro Tools 10
Complete Production Toolkit
PreSonus FireStudio 2626
PreSonus MSR Monitor Station Remote for FireStudio
YAMAHA RX-A800 7.2-Channel AVENTAGE Series A/V Receiver (self-calibrating/7.2 multi-channel inputs)
JBL LSR4326P 7.1 set (Used to use a passive 5.1 Alesis Monitor Two set)

It's solid, sounds amazing, is very flexible, and can be used for movie nights! :)
