Channel Mute Issue
Hi,
I'm having a problem where when I mute a VCA the channels in that VCA group flash muted but are not muted to monitors on stage? Is this a pick off issue? Me having the wrong one set? Thanks! |

Re: Channel Mute Issue
I believe so. Go into Options > Busses, ensure that "Pre-Fader" is chosen for the mix(es) in question.

Re: Channel Mute Issue
Thanks, pretty sure my Auxes 1 - 8 are set to be pre fader on that page. Will check...

Re: Channel Mute Issue
If I understand you correctly, you are wanting those auxes to be muted by the VCAs? They will not be muted if in pre-fader. VCAs only affect post fader busses.

Re: Channel Mute Issue
In order to make the channel mute switch also mute your monitor sends for that channel, you have to select "pre fader" at the Busses tab on the Options screen.
This way when you mute the VCA it will also mute at the monitors. Very simple. Regards, MJ Last edited by mariojorgeandrade; 03-13-2011 at 07:28 PM. Reason: I mistyped a word. |

Re: Channel Mute Issue
I've checked my file. The busses are set to pre fader for those auxes going to monitors. But the channels are still going to the monitors when muted via VCA.

Re: Channel Mute Issue
+2 on what Earl said--The VCA's will not mute anything that is PRE-Fade. The purpose of a VCA is a remote volume control. If you have the send POST fade the VCA will mute it.

Re: Channel Mute Issue
Strange, though.
BTW, the pre buttons close to the channel aux sends are on, aren't they? Tomorrow, I'll check on a Mixrack. Regards, MJ |

Re: Channel Mute Issue
Maybe the VCA mutes doesn't work the way you want, muting pre-fader sends.
I'm sure you can mute a pre-fader send via the channel mute switch (I've lived that situation once), so maybe the best approach will be assigning a mute group to the inputs you want. Good luck. Regards, MJ |

Re: Channel Mute Issue
I think the point here is that unlike most consoles, the VCA muting of a channel and that channels own Mute button are actually at 2 different points in the signal path. As i understand it, it is as follows
Gain > HPF/Pad/Phase > Plugins > Dynamics/EQ (order switchable) > Channel Mute > Pre-Fade Aux Pickoff > Fader > VCA Mute > Post Fade Aux Pickoff > Groups/Mains. A Mute group on the other hand remote triggers the Channel Mute which explains why muting a channel causes the PreF Auxes to mute but muting a VCA does not. |
