Ready to upgrade--best Mac for 8.1 HD?
Sorry if this has been covered already, but I think the answer is a moving target. Is any consensus emerging as to what is the ideal Mac to use for the latest PT HD? 12 core not supported? A friend with a 12 core is having a terrible time.
In my experience with Macs, since they were invented, it's always been key to choose the right one at the right time. (Remember the IIci? Immortal!) Also, I couldn't even find on the site which computers are authorized by Avid. Thanks in advance, -R

While I've heard of issues with the brand spankin' new Macs... the older ones seem to have less issues. If you were to buy a harpertown or nehalem 8-core, you should have no dramas.

Do you know where on the Avid site the list of supported computers is?

The only list that exists currently, is over a year old now. Not very relevant.

Re: Ready to upgrade--best Mac for 8.1 HD?
Rick, Avid has not been too forthcoming about the newly released Mac's. Some seem to be working - no problem. Others are having problems.
That's why I bought a Nehalem (last years model.) Your best bet is to talk to a reseller who is a MAC dealer AND a PT dealer. Chris B @ RSPE in Universal City comes to mind. You might be able to find a slightly better price elsewhere (although I never have - they treat me well), but they will back you up and get you going. If they sell you a Mac and say it's going to work with PTHD, it will work. Express your concerns to them, and they'll take care of you. Good luck! bp |
