Default Best trick for marking audio but NOT timelinked..Markers?

So I get back a 90 minute wav of my voiceover work - a recording of a chapter of an audiobook

And I get a spreadsheet from the Quality Control person with the timecodes of the bits I need to check or re-record

I need to go through that spreadsheet ...and put a marker on my wav that shows me the bits I need to check

BUT crucially I need these markers to stay with that bit of audio - NOT stay with that timecode...because of course after I start adding, editing or deleting other bits of the wav the timecodes will relate to a different place and therefore a different bit of audio!

What's the best way of doing this? THANK YOU!

ahhhhh I THINK it is Selection Memory Locations that will do this for me!

To create a Selection Memory Location:
1 Configure any session settings you will save with the Selection Memory Location, such as zoom settings, pre- and post-roll times, Show/Hide status for tracks, Track Heights, and Edit and Mix Group enables.
2 Select a range of material in one or more tracks.
3 Do one of the following:
• Press Enter on the numeric keypad.
– or –
• From the Memory Locations Window menu, choose Add Memory Location.
4 In the New Memory Location dialog, select the Selection option and set the Reference to either Bar|Beat or Absolute.
5 Enter a Name for the new Memory Location and select any General Properties you want to save with it.
6 Click OK. The Selection Memory Location is created and appears in the Memory Locations window.

No

These Locations also move around once you start editing, deleting bits or re-recording

Or am I doing something wrong?

THANK YOU!

The best way I've found to deal with this is to start at the end and work backwards. That way when the timeline shifts you have already made those changes.

1. Make a blank audio file the length of your session.
2. Cut it up and name the regions as desired.
3. Group that "marker track" with the audio being edited.
4. Shuffle Edit to your heart's content.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions and workarounds....really grateful

I am using the backwards trick at the moment and it's ok, a bit weird but ok...the blank file trick is clever too - cheers

I am still seeking not a workaround but a real way of marking audio that is not timecode based...as apparently you can easily do in Reaper - hadn't even heard of that till yesterday

The head of Halo Productions here in London has 30,000 years of Protools experience and has won all the industry awards...he reckons Sync Marks might do it. He's going to have a think, ask his staff or read a manual today. Fingers crossed....

if all you need to do is have the markers follow your edits
then simply shift clic in the marker ruler and they'll all tag along...

well it didn't work for me....a shift click in the marker ruler did add a little white flag which was exciting...but then all the markers still stay in their timecoded places when I remove a bit of audio elsewhere

am I not doing what you said?
