Default bit rate and bit depth

Could someone explain the difference between bit rate (8, 16, 24) and dither bit depth (16, 18, 20)?

Bit rate is basically your head room before you clip (the audio) the higher the bit rate the better or more headroom you have

Dither basically refers to after you're ready to mix the 2- track down to a CD quality depth

Dither is basically used after you're done with everything in the song

But your bit rate you want to use the highest available PT 10 is 32-bit PT nine and below is all 24-bit

I'm afraid you are both confusing things. Bit rate is the # of bits transferred over time (e.g. per second) in any transmission line. It's basically the same as sample rate (sample frequency), typically 44.1 kHz, 48 kHz, 96 kHz etc. Bit depth (or sample depth) is the resolution of the transferred data, e.g. 16 bits, 24 bits etc. Dither applies to changes in bit depth, not bit rate (sample rate).
