Can you hide the dock (stop auto show hide?)

Hi

the dock has been irritating me more and more, so i would like to hide it always, except when i press opt+D to show hide. but whenever i go to dock prefs and switch off auto show hide it always turns itself back on when i use opt+D

Just want to hide the little monster off untill i say it can come out?

I'd looked for a dock killer too without success only a month ago after installing Quicksilver. DockBlock seems to do the job nicely. Thanks
