Re: Need advice on a good way to quantize live drums w/wo plugins
Hi there,
I followed eric valentines youtube channel lately, he shares tons of highly interresting stuff (at least for me). This was on it there too: https://youtu.be/QISP11wf1iw I hope it΄s fine, to post it here. Not quite what you΄re looking for, but a very detailed explanation of beat detective among other even more useful ideas. |

Re: Need advice on a good way to quantize live drums w/wo plugins
The problem being that after going back and fixing the inevitable hundreds of bad edits and fades beat detective creates you eventually learn that doing it manually is much less painful. I wasted far too much time (years ago now) trying to make BD work...it couldn't understand anything but the simplest 4/4 beats and still borked the edits on those far too often. "Groove template extraction" could never correctly identify anything. Identifying bars manually and figuring yourself what really needs adjusted is so much better. You can retain the human fluctuations in tempo etc and just fix to whatever is your standard. The person you responded to was fortunate to just do it manually from the get go.
Of course if you want to export the resulting tempo map correctly into Logic, forget it. Tried many times/methods over the years including today (why I went searching for threads like this ). From Logic to PT possible, but not the reverse. I've never heard any TCE algorithm that had an acceptable lack of artifacts. |

I use Waves SoundShifter. When TCE'ing by tiny amounts, it sounds acceptable to me. Large amounts of TCE adjustments will produce artifacts, however.
