Default Video Sync Offset Canopus/8 core 2010 mac pro

Hi,

Unfortunately i dont have access to a syncheck and am not confident in setting up the video sync offset manually. I have tried to set the offset manually but some parts of the film look in sync and others dont...? it may be that the editor has placed the audio out of sync, but im not willing to move the audio until i know i have the correct offset. So i was wondering if someone out there who using the same computer as me could share they're offset settings..?

I am using PT 8.1cs2 HD2, Macpro 2010 8 core, 12g ram, Canopus advc110

so i guess im wondering what offsets people use with this mac for the canopus and also when playing back video on the computer screen?

alternatively - does anyone know where i could hire a syncheck from in london?

any help or input is greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Sam

This also depends on the screen. Set up a series of white flash frames and sync pops, start with around 2 qf for computer LCD and around 20 qf for LCD TVs, fiddle around and adjust from there until it looks right. You could also film those flash frames, import the video and see how much the offset is.

Filming the flashes beeps will only be frame accurate and also depend on if the video camera is frame accurate with audio. So, if the camera has an offset you could be as much as two frames out with this method. Get syncheck. It's much more accurate.

Not sure what you mean by that. Of course the audio will be sample accurate. All you need is re-import the video into ProTools and measure the delta. Done lots of testing and compared to Syncheck, and it was always spot on.

Well you only get one frame of video resolution with this test. So, one picture every 33 ms or so. The beep can land anywhere in that frame and you will think it's in time but it could be 3/4 of a frame out of sync. You will never know because the video is only one frame accurate.

But a canous is not resolved to frame sync so could playback anywhere within a frame boundry each time you press play. The test is not accurate, but neither are the playback conditions.
Personally I like my Mojo and enjoy frame accurate video playback.

Thanks for the input guys,

ive manually adjusted the offset by using flash frames and pip's to the best of my ability but im still not 100% confident..

im looking at the blackmagic intensity pro - what are the advantages of using this over the canopus, taking into account i cant find anywhere in london that hires syncheck's?

Cheers

Sam
