Default Are you happy with the 001?

I bought the Mbox a few days ago, and it isn't good enough.
I need something with more I/Os, which I can connect via lightpipe to a d8b. What I'd really like to buy is a HD system, but I'm not ready to spend a gazillion dollars just yet.

Does anyone have a 001 connected to their d8b or any other console via lightpipe, and how do you like it?

Thanks in advance.
Imagine

dear imagine:

i have worked on a digi001 for the past 3 years and i am as happy as can be.in this price range there is nothing that compares to the 001 and if you have the d8b and you are possibale to record a good warm signal from the mackie to the 001 you have a wining combination.if you are a truly protolls addict nothing else would ever satisfy your creative needs.take a 001 and you will thank the digi guys every time you fire up your mac!

For the price, the 001 is exceptional. I have had one installed for 3 years and the flexibility it provides is very good. ProTools software, adat & s/pdif connections to the best converters and preamps, RTAS/AS plugs and ever-increasing computing power provide the opportunity to put together a very high quality recording environment.

Sure there are problems with video sync and midi but for a basic audio recording platform it works very well.

The 001 has major bang for the buck potential, even before OSX and PT6. the 32 track beta version 5.2.1 rocks on OS9. The lightpipe i/o give you the ability to use the D8B's converters, bypassing the 001's for 8 i/o digital, in addition ot the 8 analog i/o and the 2 spdif i/o.

PT is very intuitive software, and you'll be a master in no time.

We've been running an 001 in conjunction with a MAckie HDR 24/96, syncing via MMC/MTC, using the HDr as the master clock. the two sync perfectly, giving us 56 tracks of audio plus midi.

Hope this is helpful.

I agree with the others. I work also with a TDM Mix Plus system and two M-Boxes (at the University) and the 001 has been the winner out of all of them. I'm not connected to a digital board; I'm using the RME 8-channel lightpipe i/o with whose better converters made a serious upgrade to the sound quality. I also don't use the 001's mic pre's (except for talk-back); I'm using outboard mic pre's. For me, the great thing about the 001 is the ability to connect directly to the PCI card via ADAT, and the compatibility with other ProTools systems. With the 8 converters in the 001 and the ability to conect another 8 channel ADDA via lightpipe, you can have 16 channels of simultaneous i/o, if you want. I haven't tried it with OSX (still running 9.2.2.
