Default Pro Tools "knocks out" audio for other apps when open

Hi
I'm using Pro Tools Ultimate on my main PC and have just noticed that when its open I cannot listen to other audio feeds (such as YouTube videos etc.)

And that when I close back down Pro Tools, I get this functionality back!

Is this typical? And if not, is there a way to resolve it please?

Many thanks in advance
Edward

Hi and yes on the windows side most of the time this is normal. You have to use another driver selected on windows sound panel while using Protools . Some devices driver will allow multiclient features like that. I remember that i had a Focusrite Clarett 8 pre X and it let me play youtube etc.while using Protools on windows . That and the aggregate feature made me move to the mac side .

Best practice for Windows is to designate the onboard audio device as the default for Windows sounds so Pro Tools can have exclusive control of your recording interface. It doesn’t like to share.
