Default Interleaved File import very slow from Workspace

Dragging and dropping any interleaved AIFF or WAV from Workspace or from the Finder results in 20 seconds of spinning beachball before completing the import.

Anyone else have this problem? I can import the same file using Snapper and and it's very fast - there is no freezing or spinning beachball.

Audio files are at the same sample rate.

I've trashed preferences and databases.

On a Mac Pro 8 core 2.8GHz
16GB RAM
OS X 10.6.2
Mbox 2 Pro
PT LE 8.0.3

It could it be that PT is having to extrapolate the two mono sides of the interleaved file and this is creating the lag (as PT only works with mono files)

A:)

Shouldn't take 20-30 seconds to extrapolate 2 mono files from a 5 second interleaved audio file. Snapper does it almost instantly. PT didn't always used to be this slow. It wasn't like this before the last two software revisions.

Is it just one session where that happens? Or even in a new blank session it still occurs? Maybe your session is corrupted.

Could also be related to a heavily fragmented or failing HD.

Or, if you haven't already, do the steps in the "General Troubleshooting" thread i.e. trash prefs, volumes, databases etc.

All sessions including blank new sessions. All hard drives. Did all the usual troubleshooting things - trashed preferences, databases, etc...

Have you installed the cs updates? 8.03cs2 specifically has fixes for your hardware version:

Ugh, thank you for that!

I thought the 'check for updates' that boots up everytime I start PT would've caught the cs3 update.

Installing now.

Nope, even with cs2, still takes 20-30 seconds.

Did you possibly do an update from Leopard to Snow Leopard, instead of doing a clean install of Snow Leopard? We've seen updating causing a lot of strange problems - a clean install clears them up.

Also, have you verified compatibility of all installed plug-ins? The General Troubleshooting thread has specific info about how important it is to have only compatible plug-ins installed...

Can you give us more info about your system - what types of drives, how they're connected, if they were erased/formatted using Disk Utility, the type of format and partition scheme (GUID vs. APM), etc?

Hmmm... It's working perfectly on my Macbook Pro.

Both computers didn't have a clean install of Snow Leopard.

The Mac Pro has 4 internal SATA drives. 3 are RAIDed together using Disk Utility. This is not a system drive or a PT drive, just a project drive for video. The system drive is the 4th drive - formatted as GUID. Project drives are usually single FW800 drives, or single drives connected via eSATA connection. Every drive is formatted via Disk Utility. 1 partition per drive.

Haven't checked plugin compatibility - but the Macbook Pro has the same plugins as the tower.

I'll do some more troubleshooting. It works properly on the laptop so it's obviously not a bug in the software. Gotta find out what's different between the systems.
