So what you need to do is when PT launches, it will eventually hang on either the last plug-in, or the start of loading audio files. When this happens, turn bluetooth either on or off depending on it's current setting and PT will launch. Sounds weird I know, but it works.

I might post some video of this later today as it's hard to explain.

Hope this helps
Disabling bluetooth entirely doesn't help?

No...it's the oddest thing. Sometimes you need it on, sometimes you need it off to run PT.

The 8.0.3PR did the same thing

No problem, I have no idea how I figured out that work around.

Default Re: Still need to toggle Bluetooth to launch PT

UPDATE

This also affects other audio apps like iTunes, Garageband etc. AFTER you quit ProTools, toggle Bluetooth to the opposite position of it's current state, BEFORE you launch another AUDIO app, like iTunes, GarageBand etc.

That's it, so the opposite of the ProTools/Bluetooth/Launch problem

Digi has acknowledged

I got a 404 when clicking your last link, what was that supposed to link to?

I did see this:
http://avid.custkb.com/avid/app/self...347971&Hilite=

And does wiggling a USB mouse wget out of the freeze. or is it a 100% MUST that you toggle the bluetooth? I'm just curious if its the movement or wiggle of mouse that is the actual resolution and not just the movement up to the bluetooth icon for the toggle?

The link was another thread on this subject, weird it worked when I posted it.

http://duc.digidesign.com/showthread...ight=bluetooth

For me, I have to toggle the Bluetooth off or on because I am not using a Bluetooth mouse.

Remember to toggle back after you quit ProTools, otherwise you will crash all other audio apps (iTunes etc) and need to reboot.

Thanks Lap Dude!
I just copped an Imac I5 3 days ago and the bluetooth toggling workaround did not work for me unfortunately.(AVID did corroborate that this work around does not work in all cases)

Pro Tools 8.0.3 randomly hangs on a new Quad Core i5 iMac[347971]

Back

Why does Pro Tools 8.0.3 randomly hang on a new 27" Quad Core i5 iMac?

We are currently investigating this issue.
Some users have fixed the problem by toggling Bluetooth on or off, depending on its state when the hang occurs. This has not solved the problem in all cases.
Please see this thread for ongoing discussion of this issue on our User Conference.

I am using an Mbox2 which is USB as is the Mbox Micro that the Lap Guy's system description says.
So I can't really deduce that this problem is a USB versus firewire driver issue on the DIGI side(although the Mbox Mini may use a different USB chipset than the Mbox2 uses)

FLOMMER was one other user on this thread that actually gave his system description and he is using an 002 rack which is firewire... but We can't tell from his post if he is using the 27" Imac I5.

Flommer are you using the Imac I5 with Protools 8.03 under OSX 10.6.2?

So I am bummed that I could not get Protools to fire-up on this new fast Imac I5(FWIW Ableton 8.1.1, Guitar Rig 4, and my Metric Halo ULN-2 are really smoking fast on this CPU)
But I have been a Protools Profession user and huge Protools enthusiast since the NUBUS Mac days and The Audio Media II card with Sound Designer II Software!
I will not accept anything less than the DAW I consider to be the best choice... Protools
.

To be fair, I own and use a number of the other DAWs on the market and I really dig them all as well for their strengths and unique features.

So my client is buying a new Imac now and it looks like the I5 in all of it's QPI
speediness (the memory path that Intel uses instead of a FSB... like AMD has had for a few years...kinda) will not be the choice.

Sorry All,

here is my RIG:
27" Imac I5
OSX 10.6.2
4gig Ram
Protools 8.0.3
MBOX 2

FWIW I did test this setup after removing the KEXT(system extensions)
for BLuetooth and Airport to see if the issue with Protools and the I5 Imac went away but the conflict just went deeper into the bowels of the system!
Thanks AL

AS I experiment further I find it interesting that Mbox2 utilizing The DIGI CoreAudio system works with Live and Native instruments standalone apps quite well on this 27" Imac I5!

Perhaps the issues preventing the Imac I5 and Protools LE playing nicely have to do with the fact that Protools is a non-coreaudio application!

I can appreciate the Apple moving target is costly for developers as it is for US the end users.... but in my experience the music community favors Apples over Oranges(I mean the Apple Platform over the Microsoft Windowz offering)

So what should my friend do that has purchased this 27" Imac I5?
Return it for a 3.33ghz C2D Imac?
Keep it in eager anticipation that Digi(AVID) will be willing to expend the resources necessary to fix this issue?

Thanks All and most importantly have fun, I think that I am!
