Hello. Pro Tools 7.0 is rumored to be released sometime in Q2 2005 or so. However 6.7 apparently will be announced at AES in late October. Some DUC users who are apparently Beta testers or who know them have commented on this on the TDM forums. Apparently 7.0 was scheduled initially for AES in October, but a change was made to make it 6.7.

And the new Venue live digital console sort of hints that there may be a 32 I/O LE system in 2005. So if this all pans out, it would be some time around May or June 2005. We'll have a better idea about all this at AES in October.

Either way, the rumor is the new update makes a big leap in MIDI functions. We'll see.

A 32 I/O LE would be awesome. Are we talking Digi 003 here?

It would be awesome as long as it really is a 32 Preamp, mic channel device. And not some 32 channel mixture of say 8 mic pres and a bunch of utterly useless TRS inputs for i suppose for anyone other than keyboard freaks. I hope they learn from the mistakes of Tascam, Roland and Fostex..............all of which came out with small format digital mixers a few years ago that advertised them as "8 channel, 12 channels, or even 16 channel" mixers who in reality gave you only 2 to 4 mic pres (much like the 002). And within 2 to 3 years all had been discontinued while Yamaha's 01v went on to un-precidented success with it's 12 mic-pres on XLRs. Heck right now, I have to use 4 MOTU 896's to rack into Digital Performer (which I utterly despise) AND THEN import all the files into Pro-Tools for mixing. Life would be so much easier if Digi would just play nice with other manufactures hardware..........or come out with something truly useful of their own.

I was exited about the whole M-Audio aqusition until I realized that the company doesn't really making anything more substanital than the equvilent to an M-Box....well, other than the Octane, and that is limited because it only has ADAT out...............why not firewire so you can link mutliple units together in order to get up to 32 inputs? At $750 a pop, ProTools LE users could finally take full advantage of their software at a fairly reasonable price (that is opf course assuming that 6.7 will have support for M-Audio Devices). But alas, unless something else is in the works, it seems it's not meant to be just yet.

Hello. Just to expand on my comment. Current LE interfaces (except Mbox) do 18 I/O. But only 4 mic pre's. So my guess is that if in fact there is an LE interface introduced that does 32 I/O, it would only have 8 mic pre's at the most. All interfaces in the market as far as I know top out at 8 mic pre's.

Digital mixers are not front end hardware and converters for software. Because of that, all interfaces that I know of only offer 8 mic pre's. However, the new Mackie Onyx series do function that way. They are in fact mixers and hardware front end for software.

FYI...here's what's listed for Digi at the Remix Hotel SF:

Join Digidesign specialists for an inside look at the workings of Pro Tools LE. Showcasing the latest Pro Tools LE hardware and new Pro Tools LE 6.7 software, Remix Hotel will give you firsthand exposure to the benefits of the Pro Tools LE environment as well as provide an open one-on-one forum for your questions. Along with innovations like the Control|8 control surface and Digi 002, be sure to check out Pro Tools LE 6.7’s new MIDI functionality and Beat Detective LE, and the all-new Synchronic audio manipulation plug-in. Space for all Digidesign events is limited, so be sure to come by early.

Sounds like not only increased MIDI (hopefully a decent-sized increase), but also some form of Beat Detective. I'll be there to check it out for sure.

There is a decent amount of new MIDI features, as well as multi output RTAS, Beat Detective LE, and some other stuff for TDM.

I've really come to love using my outboard preamps, which can be a problem with one such setup. I exclusively use the TRS inputs, because that's the only way to get a direct signal into the system (I have a 002R) without going through that extra gain stage, which is the 002R's preamp. I wouldn't want 32 preamps slapped across the interface, because then how would I use my own preamps?

I prefer only having a few on-board preamps, which I usually use as "emergency inputs" in the control room. What do you all think?

not to mention people who want 32 ins and outs usually have a board they want to fill up

which comes with pre amps on every channel
