Default it is ok to leave cover off my mac ?

In order to run my PM7100/66 the way I need to (too long to explain, it involves an expansion chassis, G3 upgrade card and two video cards) I have to leave the cover off my Mac.
This won't be a problem in terms of fan noise because the Mac and other computer equipment is going into a machine room currently under construction.

My question is : is this going to cause any damage to the Mac ? I'm sure it was designed so that the cooling fan could work effectively with the cover on....but what about leaving the cover off permanently ?

Touchy subject (pun intended)...the two things to look out for are the temperatures of your drives and the processor chip..I used to leave the cover off my IIci forever with no problems....but my 9600/350 is another story entirely. An easy test (and no, let's not get this thread all screwed up about getting shocked...) is to probe around with your finger after the machine's been running for an hour or so..if there is ANYTHING inside that you can't comfortably hold your finger on tightly for 15 seconds, the answer is no, don't leave the cover off.....
Alternatively you could mount your own muffin fan and blow air on to the hotspot...if noise is no problem you could use a rather large fan and overkill the heck out of it....
