Question (random?) access violation error w/ video

hi digicommunity,

i recently ran into problems using video w/ PTLE 7.4:

i have two partitions on my laptop: c: system and d: audio
whenever i create a new project on my audio partition PT refuses
to load any kind of video and tells me about a access violation error.

when i create the same project on on the desktop of my system (c:) partition
the video loads with no problem.

when i move this particular session to the audio partition the session
opens without problems..

i already deleted the digi database to see if that solves the problem.
but this did not work.

my workaround atm is to create every session on the desktop
and then move it over to the audio partition.

but as i am doing postproduction w/ 4 sessions a day this is not too
elegant.

any suggestions?

Partition of the system drive for audio sessions...NOT supported. Plus you're system drive in a laptop is likely to be a 5400 rpm drive or maybe even a 4200 rpm drive...both NOT supported. You need a physically separate minimum 7200 rpm drive. NOT a USB 7200 rpm external drive...USB external drives NOT supported. You need a 7200 rpm separate physical internal hard drive for your audio sessions or a 7200 rpm firewire external drive with an Oxford chipset and the firewire port on the computer should have an Oxford chipset. Any other firewire chipset is NOT supported.

Cheers,

uhm.

yeah. thanks for your reply.
but actually this does not answer my question.

my setup works properly under any circumstances.

the only problem is, that i can not setup
a session with working video on my audio drive.
again: when i setup the session on my system drive
everything works fine. it also works, when i move the session
from the system to the audiodrive.

so i am assuming, that there is a problem with the preferences.

can somebody please tell me where i can find the preferences folder,
so i can delete it and try again..?

the setup w/ video worked for quite some time.
but it stopped working overnight..

thanks.

There's some confusion here. In your previous post you stated:

"i have two partitions on my laptop: c: system and d: audio"

Now you're stating:

"...when i move the session from the system to the audiodrive."

Which do you have? Is D: a partition of the System Drive or a separate, physical, 7200 RPM hard drive? As I stated, anything less than a separate, physical, 7200 RPM hard drive for audio sessions is not supported for Pro Tools use. And in Digidesign land, it may be unspported and still work for you, but one day it won't.

Download the Tech Support Utility, there's a link in the General Troubleshooting thread. There is a function in the folder that will delete Preferences and Digidesign Databases for you so you don't have to search for them manually. You may also want to post a Sandra Report or PC Wizard Report if you can't get back to functioning properly.

Cheers,
